2018 Summer Morning Routine
A good routine is instrumental.
I’ve felt like a mess.
A lot.
Over the past two years, as I’ve transitioned from private practice dietitian, to small-scale videographer to assistant and I’ve felt like a mess. A lot. To-do lists started to feel long and monotonous with a lot of repeating tasks that needed a permanent place.
Enter routines. Systematic, organized, calm… they just get me. Routines are a great way to mindlessly move through tasks that need to be completed often (daily, weekly, monthly, etc.). Because they are repetitive, they become… routine, and save your precious mental space and willpower for more important tasks.
My routine is filled with all the little things that keep our life and home organized. I filmed the whole process of my morning routine, start to finish, last year. You can check it out here:
To develop your own routine, try these simple steps:
Write down all the little tasks that need to be completed daily, weekly, monthly, etc. for your home, family, business, etc.
Begin grouping tasks (sometimes called task stacking) and see what items naturally fit together. Consider location, time of day, prep work needed, etc.
Write your new organized task list and keep it displayed in your home, in an app or notes file on your phone or in a task management system. Set alarms or reminders if you need to (I do!).
Repeat your new process until it becomes… routine! Make adjustments as needed. Sometimes things you think would work on a certain day, just don’t and that is ok! Just take note, edit your process and move forward.
I love this topic, and have so much more I could share! If you’d like to see an updated morning routine or a full process of how I develop my routines, let me know down below. In the mean time, share your favorite routine-building hacks with me. I’d love to hear them!
